New Paradigm for Israel

It should be obvious to anyone familiar with the venomous UN speech just delivered by Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, calling for Palestinian statehood, that the so-called two state solution is dead. The idea of two states was first proposed to a delegation of PLO terrorists visiting North Vietnam in 1973 according to recently de-classified Soviet era documents. Abu Iyad, a member of that delegation visiting Hanoi, wrote in his memoir "Palestinian without a Motherland," that the North Vietnamese suggested that the PLO "stop talking about annihilating Israel and instead turn your terror war into a struggle for human rights…Then you will have the American people eating out of your hand."

The North Vietnamese proposed two state tactic was meant to serve two purposes.  Firstly, the PLO would secure good public relations. The idea of dividing Israel into two states, one Jewish and one Islamic, would appeal to the naïve sensibilities of the international left, always susceptible to utopian sounding ideas and the use of the term “peace.” The North Vietnamese had, after all, been extremely successful with their own propaganda campaign which made a strong impression on the American student anti-war movement. While the communist north was committing aggression against South Vietnam, with their Soviet and Chinese supplied forces, they were able to successfully portray the South Vietnamese as the bad guys.

Secondly, steady and relentless pressure would be applied by the new friends of the PLO, the international left, for Israel to hand over the West Bank and Gaza to this new state. Once the beachhead was established on the West Bank and Gaza, the Palestinians would then be in a position to finish Israel off. The new approach was subsequently unveiled by Yasir Arafat who spoke at the UN with a gun strapped to his belt.

The Palestinians did not, however, wait for the attainment of the West Bank as they impatiently launched the second half of the plan from Gaza after receiving that beachfront property from Israel in 2004. The Palestinians proceeded to turn Gaza into a launching pad for over 6 thousand missiles fired into Israel. Control over the West Bank would no doubt put all of Israel, including the Ben Gurion Airport, within range of mortar fire.

By seeking recognition at the UN without negotiating with Israel, the Palestinians have effectively abrogated and nullified all treaties previously arrived at between them and Israel. Furthermore, and in complete violation of previous agreements, Abbas stated during his speech that the Palestinians would never recognize Israel as a Jewish State. At last the truth is out.

Therefore, all bets are off.

The time has come for Israel to pull off the proverbial Band-Aid. Since the Palestinians seek to “annex” the West Bank and Gaza, Israel should respond beforehand by formally annexing the territories. Once this is accomplished, Israel should then commence negotiations with the Palestinian Authority on matters pertaining to local and regional sovereignty based on the Swiss Canton model. The Palestinians would be well advised to accept such a generous offer, an offer that is certainly more generous than the one they planned for Israel. Indeed, this would be an  opportunity for the Palestinian people to live in a society that would offer them a greater level of democracy and economic prosperity than they would ever have hoped to achieve in either their own state or in any other of the over twenty sovereign an in some cases oil rich Arab states that already exist.

UN Palestinian resolution demonstrates loss of faith

Many western democracies are likely to vote this Thursday in favor of UN recognition of a Palestinian state. This vote would represent a loss of faith on the part of the ruling elites of these nations. This loss of faith also applies to the ruling elites of Arab and Islamic nations as well.

Any call for an Arab state to be carved out of the tiny state of present-day Israel, which would reduce Israel to a rump frontier surrounded by enemies, runs contrary to Jewish Christian and Islamic traditions. This is due to the fact that the three great western faiths recognize Israel as the land that the Almighty promised to the Jews through the patriarchs Abraham Isaac and Jacob. That promise was renewed throughout the Bible and was confirmed by both Jesus and Muhammad.

The Torah recognizes Israel as a covenantal land. The borders of that tiny speck of land, which are precisely delineated in the Bible, constitute the exact borders of modern-day Israel. Thus the covenant between the Almighty and Israel is, as such, recognized by both Jews by and Christians.

The covenant between the Almighty and the children of Israel was also recognized by Islam. The Qur’an, drawing from the Torah and referring to the People of the Book (Jews), calls for the Jews to reassert their sovereignty over Israel as a means of setting the stage for the final judgment of mankind:

“…the words of Moses to his people (the Israelites). He said: ‘Remember, my people (the Israelites) the favors, which Allah has bestowed upon you...Enter, my people, the Holy Land which Allah has assigned for you.” (Sura 5)

“And, therefore, We {Allah} said to the children of Israel: ‘Dwell securely in the Promised Land.’ And when the last warning will come to pass, We {Allah} will gather you (the children of Israel) together (in Israel) in a mingled crowd.” (Sura 17:104)

The three western faiths have a spiritual investment in ensuring the continuation of the State of Israel as a Jewish state. How then would the non-Jewish Arab populations of Judaea Samaria and Gaza achieve justice and peace within Israel? The only practical answer to this vexing question would be for the Palestinian Authority to accept regional sovereignty within Israel, a sovereignty that might include an affiliation with Jordan. The Kingdom of Jordan was originally the eastern Arab portion of Palestine. Within this context, the Palestinian Arabs of Israel would then be free to prosper in a stable democracy and to interact with over 20 sovereign Arab states, many of which are oil and mineral rich and which contain vast lands and considerable resources.

Mahmud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian Authority, is presently attempting to conduct an end-run around Israel by appealing to the New World Order structure that is emerging as a part of the United Nations. Abbas seeks to utilize what he hopes are newly invigorated international laws, under the auspices of the UN, to criminalize Israel and to prosecute Israeli citizens with the advocacy of this resolution. Abbas, in this regard, is appealing to the many globalists who make up much of the world’s ruling elite.

By doing so, Abbas demonstrates the same lack of faith as do the globalists who are receptive to his argument. The Bible, which serves as the foundation of faith for Jews and Christians and which is revered by Muslims warns humanity to avoid globalist schemes. The attempt to establish a world government was the sin committed when, in the Book of Genesis, Nimrod attempted to build a tower as a means of conquering the world and subduing heaven. The Almighty responded to the sin by destroying the Tower of Babel and casting man to the four corners of the world. The Almighty established different languages and, by doing so, set man on the path toward the development of the separate and sovereign nation state.

The Torah, and emanating from its teachings elements of both Christian and Islamic law, instructs nations in the rules of engagement. As such, the Israelis and the Palestinian Arabs should be left to their own devises in terms of resolving their own problems. Any resolution should consider the faith of the three great religions and their teachings of the spiritual destiny of man. In accord with the rights of nations, the UN should stay out.

9/11 and Amelek

The Book of Exodus, 17: 8-10, describes Amelekites as attacking the Israelites as they crossed the Sinai on their way to the Promised Land. After crossing the sea to freedom, after achieving liberation from slavery in Egypt, the Israelites were filled with a spirit of energy, optimism, idealism, and exultation.

That optimism was suddenly crushed by the world’s first recorded terrorist attack. The Amelekites, seeming to show up out of nowhere and without the slightest provocation, attacked the Israelite caravan from behind. The Amelekites attacked the back of the Israelite caravan, the part of the caravan where the women, children, elderly, and infirm were gathered. A slaughter of innocents ensued.

From that time and ever since, the optimism of the Israelites has been tempered by the realistic recognition that evil exists in the world. As a result of the terror of Amelek, the Israelites became more aware of the primary importance of protecting and defending the most vulnerable members of their society. Another byproduct of the terror of Amelek was the development of rules of war, rules of military engagement between nations at war, and the eventual development of concepts of international law and custom based upon the moral precepts of respect for the individual and for sovereign rights.

Amelek would come to mean not a particular ethnic group or religion, but rather an evil murderous action by an individual against an innocent person or group of innocent people or an evil murderous action on innocents resulting from a conspiracy by a group of people. In every generation, Amelek takes advantage of innocent people when they are most vulnerable and Amelek acts in secret. Amelek is the quintessence of immorality, cowardice, and dishonesty.

America was attacked by Amelek on September 11, 2001. The unprovoked and evil attack on thousands of innocent people as they worked in their offices at the World Trade Center in New York and at the Pentagon, and as they flew on passenger planes, has ever since tempered the natural optimism and exultation that had been an inherent part of our American culture and lives. We will never forget the evil that was wrought against our heartland in that dastardly attack on innocent Americans. Our own innocence, and our own sense of optimism, will forevermore be guided and tempered by the leveling awareness that evil exists and has existed in every generation since the biblical days of the first cowardly attack by Amelek on innocent people.

An integral and unforgettable part of the event of 9/11 was the response by the brave and heroic firefighters, police officers, and other responders. Those men went fearlessly toward the danger zone thus jeopardizing, and in hundreds of cases sacrificing their own lives to save the lives of others. Their goodness, and their placement of the value of good over evil even at the risk of their own lives, will forever stand as an inspiration and in stark contrast to the evil legacy of Amelek.

May the memory of the innocent people who died on September 11, 2001 lead our nation on the path of eternal vigilance against the evil danger that confronts all good people. May the memory of the lost lives of our innocent neighbors, and of the heroism of the firefighters, remain exemplars of all that is best about America. May our nation have the will and moral strength to defeat and utterly destroy Amelek however long it takes.  May the memory of the heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty on September 11, working in the service of saving their fellow man, become an everlasting inspiration and call to action in the eternal war against Amelek.
